My kitchen remodel has begun! Goodbye ugly, small, cheap countertops and badly painted cabinets. Well, maybe not goodbye to the “small” — my kitchen is only 8′ x 9.5′ and that’s not going to change. But there are a few things I can do to make it much more functional. For instance, my longest run of countertop is 20.5″, barely enough space to roll out biscuit dough. A rearranging of appliances will increase that run to 31″. Ten 1/2 more inches of continuous counter space!!! I can hardly wait!
And let’s not forget the very memorable dishwasher-cook top-convection microwave oven combo. Exactly who thought of this and have they been sufficiently punished? I still can’t quite believe I bought a house without an oven. I can’t decide which I’m most excited about — having a real oven or having my countertops lowered from their current 37.5″ to the standard countertop height of 36″.
As you can see, I have miles (and takeout meals) to go before I cook. Let’s not focus on this mess. Deep breath, close your eyes and visualize what could be:
What was that about 8′ x 9.5′? O.K. perhaps I shouldn’t even punish myself with this fantasy image…
Just finished a kitchen remodel myself. The huge inconvenience makes the final results that much sweeter.
I’ll try to remember, take out food is already starting to get old and I still have at least 4 weeks until the cabinets get here.
I have to say the Before is pretty cute as it is, but the After possibilities are lovely, too! I have always wanted a kitchen island with hanging (copper) pots and pans … can’t wait to see it once it’s all done!
Thanks VOTR, there will be lots of brunches, lunches and cocktail parties to celebrate its completion!
